Baby Safety Gear
As any new parent will tell you there are many items that one will need to purchase before the new family member arrives. Due to the wide selection of baby items now available many new parents find it difficult to decide what they should purchase. However, there is certain baby safety gear which should be the first items that they purchase before anything else.
In this article we take a look at just some of the gear that you will as new parents need to purchase before the arrival of your child. By purchasing these items you will be ensuring that your baby remains safe and secure at all times.
1. Car Seat
This is the most important piece of baby safety gear you need to purchase before your baby arrives. It is important that you ensure that the one you purchase meets the relevant safety standards in the country where you live. In the USA look for those that have been given a certificate by the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMS) whilst in the UK look for those that have the Kite Mark on them that is given by the BSI Group.
2. Cribs
Again you need to make sure that the crib you choose is one that meets the relevant and latest safety standards for the country where you live. It is important that you look closely at how far apart the slats within the crib are placed. A good quality safe crib will be one where the slats are no more than 2 3/8 inches apart. This will help to ensure that your baby won’t be able to place their head or legs or arms through them.
As for the mattress in your child’s crib make sure that it is one that isn’t too soft so it provides them with ample support as they sleep. A good way of ensuring that the mattress is right is to squeeze it both in the centre and around the edges.
3. Baby Sling or Carrier
During the first few months of their life you may find that your baby enjoys this form of travel when out and about rather than being placed in a stroller. Make sure that the one you choose has been well stitched and that the harness which you place around you is strong. Also make sure that you check how much weight the sling or carrier can take.
4. Stroller
There are several features that your stroller should have. Along with a good quality harness, preferably a five point one to ensure that they are kept securely in place when put into it. You must make sure that the one you select is going to remain stable at all times, so check that all four wheels remain on the ground. Also you need to make sure when it comes to this particular baby safety gear you choose one that has good quality brakes that not only are easy to use but work.
